NYTimes in AR
ABOUT
The New York Times is using augmented reality in their journalism to bring reporting to readers in new ways. As a Design Strategist and Creative Technologist on the R&D team, I helped launch the AR lab within the R&D team and lead the UX and UI for these pieces. Read more and see the library of AR pieces here: Showcasing 31 Published Experiments in AR Storytelling
See below for the feature stories included in the 40+ effects for which I designed the UX and UI .
The initiative was highlighted in the article “As Augmented Reality Evolves, The Reporting is All Around You” (Read it here).
You can try the effects on mobile on the NYTimes Instagram page.
Icon design
When each piece is published on Instagram, it is accompanied by an icon to that allows users to discover it. Below are a selection of icons that I designed or co-designed to capture the feeling of the story and experience in each piece.
